The 47th meeting of the Working Group on Determining the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea opened in Tehran on Sunday morning with a speech delivered by Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
The official, while pointing to the developments made in defining the legal regime of the Caspian Sea, expressed hope that the process will be accelerated and finalized with resolution and cooperation of leaders of Caspian littoral countries.
Zarif outlined peace and stability, sustainable development and equitable delimitation of maritime zones as fundamental elements that should be top of any attempt to develop the legal regime of the Caspian Sea.
“Undoubtedly, the goal will prove achievable with mutual trust, unanimity, attention to collective interest, common understanding, integration as well as sense of responsibility towards future generations,” he underlined.
Iran’s foreign minister further pointed to the importance of protecting environmental and aquatic resources expressing optimism that negotiating delegations and officials of participating countries will pursue the matter with precision and determination in order to work out appropriate and effective solutions.
At the end of his remarks, Mohammad Javad Zarif voiced Iran’s readiness to provide more facilities for the transfer of energy by Oman Sea and Persian Gulf littoral states.
